Hambagu, or Japanese hamburger steak, is a comforting dish that brings a taste of Japan to your table. Made with ground beef, crumbled pork rinds, and a hint of Worcestershire sauce, this recipe fits perfectly into a low-carb dinner plan. With just 0.5 grams of carbs per serving, it’s a great option for meal prep or a weeknight dinner. Serve it alone or with a side of Japanese cucumber salad for a refreshing touch that complements the rich flavors of the patties.

Instructions

  1. Microwave chopped onion in a bowl for 50-60 seconds to help soften it.
  2. Combine all of the ingredients (except for oil and optional sauce ingredients) in a large mixing bowl, and knead with your hands to combine the mixture well.
  3. Form the meat mixture into 8 evenly-sized hamburger patties (~4 oz each patty).
  4. Preheat oil over medium-high heat in a frying pan. Cook patties until browned on both sides and cooked through (internal temperature >145F).
  5. Enjoy by itself, or serve with optional sauce (simply whisk sauce ingredients - sugar-free ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, oyster sauce, and monk fruit/erythritol - together in a small bowl) and/or an optional side dish (like Japanese cucumber salad or cauliflower rice)!
