What is Virta?

Virta is a virtual health program offered by your employer or health plan to help you lose weight, lower blood sugar, and improve your metabolic health. 

Our medical providers specialize in treating the root causes of weight gain and type 2 diabetes. With personalized nutrition, medication management, and continuous care, we help you make changes that last.

What care does Virta offer for weight loss?

Virta is more than a prescription. It’s personalized care for your metabolism.

Your plan may include:

  • Food and lifestyle guidance from your coach
  • Medication management from your provider
  • Regular monitoring of your labs, weight, and progress

We help you lose weight safely—and keep it off.

I am on a GLP-1 medicine. Will Virta work with that?

Yes. Virta providers are experts in metabolic health. That means we look at the full picture: your labs, weight, energy, and side effects.

If you’re taking a GLP-1, your Virta provider will:

  • Review your medical history and goals
  • Track your progress and side effects
  • Build a nutrition plan to protect muscle, stabilize energy, and support lasting results

GLP-1s are powerful tools, but they work best with medical oversight and lifestyle support. That’s where Virta comes in.

What do I need to do to continue my GLP-1 prescription?

To keep your GLP-1 prescription and access Virta’s expert care team:

  1. Enroll in the Virta program.
  2. Complete a video visit with a Virta provider.
  3. Decide together on the right care plan for you.

This isn’t just a refill. It’s expert medical support combined with personalized nutrition and ongoing care.

How long do I have to get started with Virta to keep my prescription?

You will receive a letter with the official start date for Virta prescribing. Enrollment opens on that date.

Once enrollment begins, sign up as soon as possible to avoid a gap in your medication. Enrollment and your first visit usually take a few days.

Your care team will help make the transition as soon as possible.

Why do I need to go to Virta for my GLP-1 weight loss care?

Virta manages GLP-1 prescriptions for your employer’s program. But we provide much more than a prescription. 

With Virta, you get:

  • An expert care team 
  • Medication management and app-based monitoring

I already see a provider. Do I have to stop seeing them?

No. You can keep seeing your current doctor. 

Virta providers will manage your GLP-1 prescription and metabolic care through this program. With your permission, we can share updates with your doctor.

I don't want to change my diet much. Can I still get a GLP-1 with Virta?

Yes. Virta isn’t a strict diet. It’s a personalized approach that fits your life. 

GLP-1s affect appetite and digestion. Together, you and your Virta provider will decide on the right dose and nutrition strategy that makes sense for you.

Is blood monitoring or finger-pricking required with Virta?

No. You choose the changes that fit your life. 

Blood sugar or ketone checks are optional tools to help your care team tailor guidance and adjust medications safely.

Who can I ask if I have questions?

You can message your care team in the Virta app. For benefit questions and enrollment help, you can contact your employer’s benefits team.

Eligibility

Virta is available to Truist teammates, spouses/domestic partners, and adult dependents 18 years or older who are enrolled in a Truist health plan through Aetna. This benefit is currently being offered to those diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, or who have a BMI of 27 or greater. Teammates with some specific, serious medical conditions may not be eligible for the Virta program. Start the application process now to find out if you qualify.
