What is Virta?

What is Virta’s nutrition program?

There are five principles behind Virta’s personalized nutrition program.

  • Eat real food: Whole foods that avoid high sugar and ultra processed foods
  • Flavor with healthy fats: Natural fats like olive oil, avocados, and butter add taste, keep us full, and provide health benefits
  • Add in plants and moderate protein: Get carbs from high fiber plants and non starchy veggies
  • Get to know your body: Use biomarker feedback to tailor nutrition to your unique biochemistry
  • Adapt for your lifestyle: Adopt habits that address your needs and preferences like budget, cultural preferences, and environment

The most important thing to remember is nutrition is not one size fits all. Lifestyle changes are only sustainable when built around your day-to-day reality. We personalize nutrition for each member around their biomarkers, health goals, and lifestyle.

How is Virta different?

Virta offers a safe path to better health that is backed by science. We take a kinder approach—no injections, starvation, or calorie-counting needed. A dedicated team of clinicians and coaches will examine your body’s needs, and will build a personal nutrition plan with the right mix of fat, protein, and carbs. Digital tools will help your team learn how your body reacts to nutrient changes, allowing your plan to adjust to meet your needs without visiting an in-person clinic. If you find yourself going off-course, your Virta care team is there to help you get back on track, judgment free.

Virta's approach is science- and evidence-based. Our research is cited in the American Diabetes Association's Standards in Medical Care for Diabetes.

Do I need a referral from my doctor to start Virta?

No referral is needed. Your Virta medical provider will become your diabetes reversal specialist and will communicate with your local medical team as needed to ensure continuity of care.

What if I’m not sure if this is right for me?

We get it, starting something new can be scary. We recommend creating your Virta account to schedule an enrollment consultation, where you’ll be able to discuss any concerns, learn more about our program, and see if Virta is right for you.

Virta is available to NOV employees, spouses, and adult dependents 18 years or older who are enrolled in an NOV medical plan. This benefit is currently being offered to those with type 2 diabetes, type 1 diabetes, prediabetes, or a BMI of 30 or greater. There are some medical conditions that would exclude members from the Virta program. Start the application process now to find out if you qualify.
