Virta is independent of Blue Shield of California and is contracted by Blue Shield to provide type 2 diabetes treatment. These program services are not a covered benefit of Blue Shield health plans and none of the terms or conditions of Blue Shield health plans apply. Blue Shield reserves the right to terminate this program at any time without notice. Virta is available to Blue Shield of California medical plan members between the ages of 18 and 79 diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. There are some medical conditions that would exclude patients from the Virta treatment. Start the application process now to find out if you qualify. Individual results may vary.

As a Blue Shield member, you may receive services from network providers on an in-person basis or via telehealth, if available. Your network providers may offer telehealth and in-office services. Costs incurred for services received through third-party corporate telehealth providers are available at in-network cost-sharing rates. Contact your primary care provider, treating specialist, facility, or other health professional to learn whether telehealth is an option. Network telehealth and in-person services are subject to the same timely access to care standards. If your plan has out-of-network benefits, they are subject to your plan’s cost sharing obligations and balance billing protections. Out-of-pocket costs shall accrue to any applicable deductible or out-of-pocket maximum.

The products and services described are neither offered nor guaranteed under our contract with the Medicare program. In addition, they are not subject to the Medicare appeals process. Any disputes regarding these products and services may be subject to the Blue Shield grievance process.
