Who is Virta Health?

Virta Health is a virtual clinic that uses nutrition therapy to help you reverse weight gain, reduce medications, and even prevent type 2 diabetes. Members can eat their way to better health with personalized food plans and support from medical providers, professional coaches, and digital health tools. You’ll learn to shift what you eat (not how much) to lose weight and enjoy better health–no starvation, surgery, or injections required.

What is nutrition therapy?

Virta's nutrition therapy utilizes a very low carbohydrate approach that is tailored to one's personal carbohydrate tolerance, is adequate in protein to meet one's needs, and promotes fat consumption to satiety.

How is Virta's clinical weight loss program different?

Virta offers a safe path to meaningful weight loss that is backed by science. We take a kinder approach to weight loss–no injections, starvation, or calorie-counting needed. A dedicated team of clinicians and coaches will examine your body’s needs, and will build a personal nutrition plan with the right mix of fat, protein, and carbs for your weight loss goals. Digital tools will help your team learn how your body reacts to nutrient changes, allowing your plan to adjust to meet your needs so you can lose weight quickly and safely without visiting an in-person clinic. If you find yourself going off-course, your Virta care team is there to help you get back on track, judgment free.

What does Virta's weight loss program include?

With Virta, you have access to a provider, as well as a health coach who is an expert in nutrition and metabolic health. Your medical care team will build your personal nutrition plan and help you safely achieve lasting weight loss. Digital health support tools including a smart connected scale will help you stay accountable and track your progress, and the Virta care app’s member community and recipes will help you stay inspired.

Can this fit into my life?

With a plan customized made just for you, no two plans are alike. Your health coach will help you find substitutions for favorite foods that fit your lifestyle. We have guides for fast food restaurants, simple snacks, and meal prepping to make the most of your time. Your coach will be able to help you find foods that fit your food preferences and budget–whether you’re cooking at home or out at restaurants.

What foods will I be able to eat?

What foods do you love? Your health coach can help you make modifications and find swaps for your favorite snacks and meals. We’ll help you create a personalized nutrition plan that is moderate in protein, low in carbohydrates, and enough fat to keep you satisfied. Many members achieve nutritional ketosis as part of this plan.

What if I'm not sure if this is right for me?

We get it, starting something new can be scary. If you’re not sure if Virta is right for you, there’s no obligation to join after submitting your application. We recommend applying to schedule an enrollment consultation, where you’ll be able to discuss any concerns, learn more about our program, and see if Virta is right for you.

What does Virta cost?

The cost of care is $0 for eligible individuals and dependents with a high weight loss need. Start the application process to find out if you qualify.

Eligibility

The Virta weight loss program does not include GLP-1 medication coverage. If State of Ohio employees (for example, individuals paid by warrant of the Director of Budget and Management) are prescribed a GLP-1 through their participation in the Virta program, they may be eligible for a partial reimbursement of the medication cost.  Virta’s weight loss program is available to State of Ohio employees, spouses, and eligible dependents 18 years or older who are enrolled in medical coverage through Anthem or Medical Mutual of Ohio with a BMI of 25 or higher. The reimbursement is only an option for CURRENT STATE OF OHIO EMPLOYEES; reimbursement requests from non-state employees, will not be processed or approved.  Certain medical conditions may prevent eligibility for any program. (The State of Ohio is also offering Virta’s Type 2 Diabetes Reversal program and applicants with type 2 diabetes may be eligible for this program).
